Player Spotlight: LeBron James 🎥
Who’s the best player in the world? I’ve had the same answer for 12-years running, LeBron James.
2018-2019 (55 Games)
Stats: 27.4 ppg, 8.5 rpg, 8.3 apg, 1.3 spg, 0.6 bpg
Percentages: 51.0 FG%, 33.9 3PT%, 66.5 FT%
Whether it’s Durant, Giannis, or now Kawhi, people are so quick to want to pass on the metaphorical torch on to the next player.
While some people change their mind after the drop of a dime, I won’t forget what I’ve witnessed over the last decade. Better yet, I won’t forget what I even saw just last postseason:
G2 vs. IND: 46 pts, 12 reb, 5 ast, 17-24 FG
G5 vs. IND: 44 pts, 10 reb, 8 ast, 14-24 FG
G7 vs. IND: 45 pts, 8 reb, 7 ast, 4 stl, 16-25 FG
G2 @ TOR: 43 pts, 8 reb, 14 ast, 19-28 FG
G2 @ BOS: 42 pts, 10 reb, 12 ast, 16-29 FG
G4 vs. BOS: 44 pts, 5 reb, 3 ast, 17-28 FG
G6 vs. BOS: 46 pts, 11 reb, 9 ast, 17-33 FG
G7 @ BOS: 35 pts, 15 reb, 9 ast, 12-24 FG
G1 @ GSW: 51 pts, 8 reb, 8 ast, 19-32 FG
LeBron finished the 2018 postseason averaging 34.0 ppg, 9.1 rpg, and 9.0 apg on 54 FG%. While he fell to the Warriors, it was still one of the best INDIVIDUAL playoff runs of all-time.
A streak of 8 STRAIGHT NBA Finals. While people accredit this to a weaker Eastern Conference, there’s just no way a person can spin this NOT to be one of his greatest accomplishments throughout his career:
NBA Finals Appearances
31 - Lakers
21 - Celtics
9 - LeBron
9 - Warriors
9 - 76ers
As we’ve seen with the Warriors it’s not just a single factor of being “better” than the other team to reach the peak of success in the NBA. It takes elite megastars/team chemistry, a strong organizational infrastructure, and a bit of injury luck.
Prior to this season the Lakers had a record of 126-284 (30.1%) over the past 5 years, THE worst mark in the entire NBA.
A roster surrounding LeBron James that has never been proven to work in the past, LeBron’s first real setback in terms of injury, and the AD trade rumors swirling their team chemistry into the ground. The Lakers season was set up for failure.
Next season he will show us once again.
We are all witnesses.
