  • I decided to go out to try and capture the sunset on Friday. The clouds looked like they would make a really nice evening. The only place I could get to with the limited time I had after work was Ardsley reservoir. It's a really nice walk, and you can get a good far view from many sides of it. The sunset never really happened because it seemed like there was just one huge cloud covering the entire sky and horizon. I did manage to get this photo that I liked though. I was looking for a lone tree, and I found it right at the end of the walk. A lot of editing went into removing powerlines and distracting objects, and it wasn't perfect, as you can see on the middle left of the image. But I still kind of like it. 📸 Canon 750D 🔭 24-70mm f4 •ISO 1600 | 53mm | f4 | 1/80s•

On a side note, just had Strictly Come Dancing on the telly and I’ve never seen so many folk so happy to be in Blackpool! Good on ‘em.

  • //BACK TO BLACK (AND WHITE) - composition is one of my photography strengths. I'm pretty confident in my ability to compose a nice looking shot. The down-side is that I tend to lean on this skill more and avoid working on my areas of weakness. I'm not very good at taking my time with a scene. I'm probably the least patient landscape photographer you know. I'm also not very good at being methodical (when doing photography). I shoot from instinct and I shoot quickly, probably only getting 5 or 6 different compositions of each subject, but in a couple of minutes. I need some advice ... How would YOU go about developing those skills? What could I try that would force me to slow down and think more deliberately about what I'm doing? Thanks . . . #fujigfx50s #bbcyorkshire #scenesofyorkshire #uk_greatshots #scenicbritain #way2ill #england_insta #NomadStories #UKAdventures

  • Chums, Winter is definitely upon us. I find the cold and dullness quite hard to live with at this time of year, so without being some kind of hygge w*nker, what are the things that get you through the worst months of the year? I can’t even look forward to snow after that Beast from the East nonsense last year because it was just too cold to enjoy (what with it being snow and all. Snow usually is cold which tends to spoil the enjoyment). . Also, it’s only 36 days to Christmas. Does anyone over the age of 25 actually enjoy it anymore?

  • The Queens Hotel in the Saint Vincent Quarter has stood on Scotland Street since 1797 although it has been boarded up for more than 2 decades now. With the redevelopment of this area of the city centre you feel it’s days are numbered. Scotland Street is named, ironically, from the influx of Irish immigrants that flocked to the city in the 1840’s due to the potato famine that left a million dead on the Emerald Isle. Sheffielders of this period welcomed the Irish but, mistaking them as Scots, named the area after those north of the border. This street was once lined with pubs but is now half industrial, half derelict. Let’s hope the regeneration brings back the old times!
