We’re delighted we’ve been invited down to @darwinescapes Mullion Cove Coastal Retreat for a family weekend.
Surrounded by enchanting meadows, Mullion Cove Coastal Retreat is a 5 star holiday park offering luxury Cornwall lodges amongst unspoilt greenery and captivating outlooks.
Our stunning lodge sleeps 6 with three bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, living area, kitchen and even a private hot tub on the decking area!
So we’ve brought my parents with us which of course the Littlies are super excited about!
The attention to detail from the outset sets this holiday park apart from others we’ve stayed at, I mean I walked through the door to flowers and chocolates so I knew it was a winner!💐
The lodge is fully equipped with Egyptian Cotton bedding, bath robes, towels and even a few essentials such a bread, milk and biscuits which is always handy when you arrive and need a cuppa!☕️
The Littlies love the cupboard of board games we’ve been playing Snakes and Ladders and Rocco must have magic powers as he seems to keep landing on ladders🎲😂
Today we’ve been to explore Mullion Cove and the quaint fisherman’s village of Cadgwith then had Fish & Chips for tea...you can’t not when you’re so close to the sea right?🌊 #hosted#gifted#review#darwinescapes#carvingmemories#mullioncovecoastalretreat#mullioncove
I adore this house tucked away on a little lane. A local from this village told me the house is not longer lived in rather now it is only used only as a storage for “bits and bobs”. .
The last of the leaves cling to the trees. Autumn has lingered long this year .. I’ve enjoyed the foggy morning and the mild sunny afternoons. The talk of the town has been over the weather changing this weekend. Freezing temps are coming for us🌬🍁🍂
"I woke up in London yesterday.
Found myself in the city, near Piccadilly..."
And ended up at the British Museum.
It was my first time visiting, and the museum moved me more than I expected it would. (Not gonna lie, I was all verklemt in there!) Especially standing in front of the Rosetta Stone -- the actual Rosetta Stone! 🤩 Walking in the midst of ancient mummies was also pretty surreal. But I spent the most time with the so-called Elgin Marbles. (Greeks would probably call them the Parthenon Marbles.)
It's an interesting topic: the origins of all these pieces and how they ended up in the British Museum, one that sparks all kinds of strong feelings and debate. Greece wants their Parthenon statuary back, the Egyptians want the Rosetta Stone, but as one tour guide put it, if they gave the Parthenon pieces back to Greece, then all the world would come knocking on their door.
The museum talks about the preservation of antiques and the meticulous care that has gone into that. Around 1802 Lord Elgin (the British Ambassador to Constantinople while Greece was still under Ottoman rule) had molds made of all the frieze blocks that were to remain in Athens. Casts that were made from those molds are displayed in the museum. Apparently the casts are now more complete than the original sculptures left in Greece, due to the damage of two centuries of exposure to the elements.
I brought the topic up with a friend afterwards. She's a Londoner, and one of her replies struck me:
"That's why it's free."
They can't charge entry, because the collection belongs to the world.
Have you been to the British Museum? What are your thoughts?
Happy Weekend friends! Thanksgiving is definitely my favorite holiday🦃. Here in the UK it’s full on Christmas season. Yesterday one market vendor (hearing my American accent) thoughtfully wished me a happy thanksgiving as I purchased fresh cranberries & root veggies for gravy. Brought a smile to my face ☺️
This morning, we’re up early preparing for our Nashville Friendsgiving. Grateful to be reuniting with families also living in the UK.. we’ve all known each other for decades. With missing home lately.. This will be good for my soul. .
Cory slow roasted a pork shoulder for 14 hours & is now making his delicious BBQ sauce. Of course there will be piles of cornbread and biscuits. I’m trying my hand at several @chefandthef recipes (thanks again for the book @houseofharboenc). We will have ourselves a Southern feast!
.@peaselberry you’ll be missed 😘
