We don’t put Julian’s clothes away for him. I will fold them for him (since I use a specific method for folding all our clothes) but we expect him to help put everything away. Julian does lots of little, age appropriate, chores around our house — in fact. He is responsible for cleaning up after himself and helping to maintain our space. I am a fan of teaching kids from a young age the work that goes into keeping a house running and including them in the process. I believe that it helps them to learn independence, responsibility, and it makes them aware of the impact they have on other people and their environment. Julian is very involved and has had several conversations with me over the last couple weeks about what kinds of things help keep our home clean, safe, and healthy.
Do you encourage your kids to do chores or otherwise help maintain the house? Do you pay them for their time?
